In her adult life, she worked in journalism at NBC News in London and New York and at the BBC World Service Television in London. After living abroad for nearly 10 years, she returned to the Midwest, where she worked as a health sciences writer at the University of Minnesota and obtained her PhD from the university’s Department of Writing Studies.
