Seeking the Shalom of the City

Seeking the Shalom of the City: Revisiting and Re-visioning Louisville

A 5-week virtual program led by teacher, activist, Cory Lockhart

Five Tuesdays – November 2, 9, 23, 30 and December 7th, 2021

6:30-8:00pm EST, except December 7th, which will go until 8:30

Seek the Shalom of the city into which I have sent you, and pray to the Holy One on its behalf, for in its peace you will find your peace.” Jeremiah 29:7

In this virtual journey, we’ll “travel” through Louisville to deepen and expand our relationship with the city by visiting some of the forgotten and erased places and parts of its history. Though this program focuses on Louisville’s history, the themes and questions are relevant to contexts outside of Louisville. Bringing together women from diverse contexts will broaden the scope of our learning and understanding of the themes. ALL WOMEN ARE WELCOME!

Using a lens of social justice, each session features one or two videos created for the program about a particular place and time in Louisville, time for individual reflection, and sharing with one another. It provides time to reflect open-heartedly on how to both claim the past and shape the future of Louisville or wherever we are located. Cory is the primary writer and producer of the CrossRoads Ministry curriculum used for these five sessions.

Themes include:

  • studying history from multiple perspectives
  • racial segregation, past and present
  • creating hospitality and building community across cultures
  • intersectional justice work
  • 2020 protests
  • seeing all people and our city “shining like the sun

Please join us for one or all of these sessions that will stand on their own.

THANK YOU TO OUR GRANT PARTNERS!
